The leaves are doing their thing up here in New England. The air is cooling, the breezes are blowing and everything in nature is getting ready to slow its pace down for a much needed rest.
We humans would do well to take our cue from nature. Our bodies actually adjust their pace to match the rhythm of the time zone we live in. The ancients payed much more attention to the seasons, and their affects on our body/mind, than we do these days. Today’s earth enthusiasts, animists, medicine people and pagans know well that this time of year carries us into the dark time, the quiet time of the year. It’s a time for internal reflection, hibernation, planning and keeping our hearts warm through the winter.
What will you be focusing on as we slow down into the autumn? Are you willing to take time to listen, really listen to what your body and soul are trying to say? We often say we want the answers, but we aren’t staying put long enough to really hear them. Give yourself some time to think about it – what will be your focus this winter? A new hobby, a house project, making more time to breath, better self care, learning a new craft? Whatever it is – I hope you choose something and make some space in your life to practice it. For me, I am planning some online courses but I also plan to pull out my knitting needles and get back to making scarves!
When I think about slowing down, I think about all the things and people around me that want to speed me up! I included a video here for you that gives you an easy way to slow yourself and manage your energy amidst the chaos around you. Give it a whirl and see how it fits.
If you’re in the northern hemisphere, I hope you enjoy the cooling down of this season. And if you’re not, let me know and I will see if we can send you some of the autumn breeze with a touch of pumpkin spice!
Many Blessings,
Brighid
